It All Begins Here

NGV International

National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne Australia

The NGV built in 1967 holds the State of Victoria’s international collection of art. Designed by architect Sir Roy Grounds the building is an example of Modernist architecture with strong Brutalist elements.

If you grew up in Melbourne a school excursion to this place was a right of passage and there are few moments as memorable as the entry water wall.

Back in 2014 when shadowlab launched, with this in mind, we set about creating this short film as capability statement and a homage to this Melbourne landmark as shadowlabs first flythrough animation.

Brimbank Tech School

Victoria University, Sunshine Campus

Presenting our cinematic flythrough for the new Brimbank Tech School, a state-of-the-art STEM facility at Victoria University’s Sunshine Campus.

Working alongside the visionary team at Spowers, Shadowlab was commissioned to bring this progressive, next-generation learning environment to life. Our goal was to move beyond physical geometry to capture the dynamic energy and intent of the space. By carefully curating light, materiality, and spatial composition, this animation highlights the seamless integration of high-tech educational facilities with human-centric, sustainable design.

A continuous camera path ensures the viewer fully understands the sequential arrangement around a central courtyard which characterises the design. Key design highlights visualised include immersive robotics labs, fluid collaborative zones, and an open-air courtyard reflecting the building's 5-Star Green Star ambitions and "Designing with Country" principles.

Fed Square Capital Works

Fed Square is Melbourne main gathering space built in 2002. A contemporary public square famous for it’s cutting edge architecture and housing institutions such as the Ian Potter Centre (NGV Australian art collection) and the Australian Centre for Moving Image (ACME).

25 years on from it’s opening the square is in need of several upgrades to ensure it’s longevity. This flythrough animation aims to take the audience (public release) on a tour of the entire site, highlighting key areas of interest for the application of capital works for the improvement of the facilities.

What makes this flythrough different to most, is that there was zero detailed design available at the time of production. We often create primers like this for our clients early in the project to help provide clarity around the macro goals and access stakeholder feedback. In this case critical feedback completely changed the directtion and goals of the project which is reflected in version 2. Both projects were produced in less that two weeks post client engagement.
